'Four Seasons Window'

This window is based on the client’s favourite plants throughout the year and wildlife that is seen in the area in which they live. The four seasons have been woven into the overall composition, with plants at different stages of their yearly development and each panel depicting a season, or transition between seasons. The top panels also transition from day to night.

This window has been made using traditional kiln-fired painting and enamelling techniques. Most of the pieces of glass in this window have had up to 10 layers of paint and up to ten firings to achieve the required level of detail and colour. Each panel has then been constructed using the copper foil method of joining glass, where the edge of each piece of glass is wrapped with copper foil tape, burnished smooth, then covered in solder to join them together.
